Mouthwash
You have probably heard that mouthwash can be a substitute for brushing the teeth or even flossing. This is a myth that you should keep in mind as you need to brush and floss the teeth at least twice a day. A mouthwash can be used to give your fresh breath after you brush your teeth, but it should not be a way to clean the teeth after eating or before bed. Some mouthwashes claim to clean the teeth, but they won’t work like a toothbrush and quality toothpaste.

Cavities
While it seems more children get cavities, the myth of them being more susceptible is not true. Both children and adults can get cavities. Sometimes, adults get more cavities than children because they simply don’t care for brushing the teeth as often as they should or don’t take the time needed to brush the floss the teeth. Adults usually don’t go to the dentist for regular visits like they should, either.

Pain Relief
There are some who believe that putting a pain reliever on a tooth that is abscessed or causing pain will relieve the pain faster than solving the problem. Instead of relieving the pain of the tooth, you will likely cause more damage as the acids from the pain reliever settle into the tooth and nerves. It could end up causing an abscess instead of taking away the pain of one that is already there.

Brushing After Eating
It seems logical that brushing after eating would keep the teeth clean, but this isn’t always true. Carry some floss with you so that you can remove the food particles that get between the teeth after eating. This will help more than brushing if you want to keep a clean mouth after you eat. Brushing too much can lead to eating away the enamel of the teeth, which is why dentists usually say brushing twice a day is fine.

Visiting the Dentist
During your life, you have often been told that you should visit the dentist every six months. When you’re young, this is true as children should have their teeth checked for cavities. However, when you’re an adult, you should visit the dentist when you need to see him in order to protect the teeth and resolve any issues that might arise.
