How to Successfully Stay Organized When Moving

When you begin the process of moving from one home to another, it might seem a bit overwhelming. There are boxes everywhere, and it doesn’t seem like the furniture will ever get moved to a truck or even into the new home. With careful planning, you can have a move that is organized so that you can get into your new house as soon as possible.

One of the things that you can do before moving is to get rid of the items that you no longer need or want. This will mean fewer items that are boxed and fewer items that are transferred from one location to another. If you have older furniture that seems to be falling apart, consider whether you’re really going to need it at the new home or if you can get new furniture once you get settled. It’s sometimes less of a hassle to simply get rid of older items and get new ones when you get everything into your new home.

When it comes to all of the cords that go to the televisions and other electronic devices, wrap them together and attach a label so that you know what everything is for, such as a charger for a phone. Put the cords in a large bag instead of a box to keep them from getting damaged or lost. It’s also a good idea to keep the bag of cords in the front seat or the back seat of the car so that you know where they are at all times.

After you pack items from one room, put a colored label on the box. Each room will have a different color, making it easy to put the boxes in their correct rooms when you get to the new home. This also works with larger items, such as mattresses, dressers and televisions. You could also make a list of how many items are in each box or what’s inside each box to ensure that nothing goes missing during the move.

When you’re moving the items from the yard, look over what you have to see if it’s broken or if it’s used. If it can be tossed, then it’s best to go ahead and get rid of it instead of leaving it outside or taking it with you. Make plans for transportation for lawn mowers and larger items in advance to get everything transported with ease.
